About Galiano Island, British Columbia
Galiano Island, a long narrow and second largest island in the Gulf Island chain, 27.5 km long and never more than 6 km wide, and is the driest of the islands - “The Gem of the Gulf Islands". This island offers small town ambience in a wonderful tranquil forest.
Galiano Island is the first stop off the Tsawwassen ferry and has remained fairly undeveloped and rural. Galiano Island is located midway between Victoria and Vancouver, accessible from Swartz Bay or Tsawwassen ferry terminals and offers hiking, biking, kayaking, bird watching, and horse-back riding for recreational activities. Sturdies Bay is where the ferries arrive and this is the main centre on the island. It has groceries, a liqueur store, hardware, a gas station, a bakery & cafe, a book store and a number of restaurants. The Bakery Cafe offers free wireless internet hook-up.
